When to call an emergency electrician
If any of these are happening, call us now rather than booking online.
Sparking or a burning smell
From a power point, switch, light fitting or the switchboard. If you can do it safely, switch it off at the wall or at the switchboard, then keep away.No power, or part of the property dark
Check whether your neighbours have power. If the street is out, it's a network outage for Western Power. If it's only your property, there's a fault we can find.A safety switch that won't stay on
If it trips again as soon as you reset it, even with appliances unplugged, leave it off and call us. It's protecting you from a fault.Water near electrics
A leak through a light fitting, a flooded room or wet switches. Keep clear. Only turn off the main switch if you can reach it without touching water or wet surfaces.Storm or impact damage
Damaged wiring, fittings or switchboards after a storm, a fallen tree or a vehicle. Stay well clear of any fallen power lines.Hot, buzzing or scorched fittings
A switch, power point or switchboard that feels warm, buzzes or is discoloured is a fire risk. Stop using it and call us.
Not dangerous, just not working? Fault finding and repairs can be booked online, and we'll call you back within the hour.
While you wait: stay safe
What to do in the minutes before an electrician arrives.
- Fire, smoke, or someone hurt by an electric shock: call 000 first.
- Don't touch anyone still in contact with electricity, or anything they're touching, until the power is off.
- Fallen or damaged power lines: stay at least 8 metres away and assume they're live. Call Western Power on 13 13 51, or 000 if someone is in danger. If a line is on your car, stay inside and call 000. If one lands right beside you, don't walk or run: stay still, and only if staying is dangerous, shuffle away with your feet close together.
- Shocks or tingles from taps, showers or metal fittings: don't touch metal fittings and don't try to switch off the main switch yourself. Call Western Power on 13 13 51 straight away: it can be a fault in the supply. Anyone who had a shock should get a medical check.
- Sparking or smoke from one appliance or power point: if it's safe, switch it off at the wall and unplug it, or turn that circuit off at the switchboard. Never use water on an electrical fire.
- Keep children and pets away, and don't use the affected fittings until an electrician has checked them.
Safety advice based on: Western Power (damaged power lines), Western Power (reporting emergencies and shocks) and Consumer Protection WA (shocks and tingles).

Emergency electrician FAQs
How quickly can an electrician get to me?
It depends on where you are and what is already booked. When you call, we'll confirm the earliest available attendance time and help you make things safe while you wait.
Do emergency call-outs cost more after hours?
After-hours rates apply. Ask us when you call and we'll explain them before an electrician is sent.
My power is out. Is it my property or the network?
If your neighbours are out too, it's almost certainly a network outage: Western Power fixes those (13 13 51).
If it's only your property, check your switchboard for a safety switch or circuit breaker that has tripped. If it won't reset, or part of the property is still without power, call us.
Should I keep resetting a safety switch that trips?
Try once. If it trips again straight away, unplug everything on that circuit and try again. If it still won't stay on, leave it off and call us: it's protecting you from a fault.
Can I book an emergency online?
Please call (08) 6263 0585 for anything dangerous: it's the fastest way to reach us. Online booking is for work that can wait for a callback (within the hour).
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Electrical Bros West Coast holds WA electrical contractor licence EC016557, carries $20m public liability insurance and is a member of ECA WA.
