Common residential electrical work

Everyday jobs for Perth homes, done by licensed electricians.

  • Power points and switches

Extra power points where you need them, and cracked, loose or scorched power points and switches replaced. The circuit is tested before we leave.
  • Lighting

LED lighting upgrades, indoors and out, and lights or fittings that have stopped working.
  • Safety switches (RCDs)

Safety switches fitted or replaced, so the circuits supplying your power points and lights are protected. Faulty ones must be replaced straight away.
  • Smoke alarms

Mains-powered smoke alarms installed and replaced. In WA, only a licensed electrical contractor can connect or disconnect them.
  • Switchboard upgrades

Older fuse boards replaced with modern boards and safety switch protection, tested and certified.

Electrical problems we can help with

What usually causes them, and where to start.

  • Power out in part of the house. Usually a tripped circuit, a failed connection or a damaged cable. See fault finding and repairs.
  • A safety switch that keeps tripping. Often a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor power point or light, or damaged wiring. We test to find which, rather than guessing.
  • Power points or switches that don't work. Dead outlets, or a switch that no longer does anything.
  • Flickering or dimming lights. Sometimes a loose connection or a failing fitting or LED driver. When several lights flicker together, the cause can be further back in the circuit.
  • Fuses blowing or breakers tripping when appliances come on. Especially when the kettle, air conditioning or oven comes on: the board may not suit your load. See switchboard upgrades.
  • An old switchboard. Ceramic fuses instead of circuit breakers, few or no safety switches, or no room for new circuits.
  • Smoke alarms that need replacing. Faulty alarms, alarms more than 10 years old, or alarms that need to meet the WA rules before a sale or a new tenancy.
  • A burning smell, sparking or heat. That's urgent: stop using it and call us now on (08) 6263 0585, day or night. See emergency electrician.

Residential electrician FAQs

Do you only do emergency work?

No. We do everyday residential work too: repairs, power points, lighting, safety switches, smoke alarms, switchboard upgrades and fault finding. Book online and we'll call you back within the hour.

Can you give me a price on the phone?

It depends on the job, so we'll explain what's involved before any work starts. Larger jobs, such as a switchboard upgrade, are quoted after we've seen them.

Do I need safety switches to sell or rent my home in WA?

Yes. Before a sale settles, safety switches (RCDs) must protect all circuits supplying power points and lights: at least two, and more may be needed. Landlords must also have RCDs installed in rental homes, and faulty RCDs must be replaced straight away.

Source: WA Government, RCD safety switches.

How often should I test my safety switches?

Press each safety switch's test ("T") button every three months, or as often as the manufacturer says if that's more frequent. If it doesn't trip straight away, or won't stay on after you reset it, call a licensed electrical contractor.

What are the smoke alarm rules when I sell or rent my home?

Before a home is sold, rented or hired in WA, it must have compliant smoke alarms: in working order, permanently connected to mains power (battery-powered alarms are allowed only in limited cases) and no more than 10 years old. Only a licensed electrical contractor can connect or disconnect mains-powered smoke alarms.
